Admission Requirements

In addition to any general admission requirements for your specific Drexel college of choice, if you have not received a degree in the United States, you must do the following:

  1. Take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
  2. Have an official score report sent directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS) to Drexel University
    (This must be done before your file will be evaluated)
  3. Your TOEFL scores must be less than two years old to be considered
  4. A TOEFL score of at least 79 on the iBT (550 for paper test) is required to be considered for admission.
    Some programs require a higher score. (Please see below).

NOTE:  Drexel University UNDERGRADUATE programs (with the exception of the College of Nursing & Health Professions undergraduate programs) also accept scores from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam as a replacement for the TOEFL exam.  The minimum score is between 6 - 6.5 to be eligible for admission.  Visit the IELTS website to learn more about this exam: http://www.ielts.org/

Sending Transcripts

To be considered for admission into a Drexel Online program, you must include the following in your application:

  1. List all schools attended, including primary and secondary schools.
  2. A WES evaluation of your official transcripts (mark sheets and degree certificates) in your native language as well as English from all colleges and graduate/professional schools that you attended (Exception:  Programs in the College of Engineering and LeBow College of Business DO NOT require a WES evaluation).  NOTE:  Contact WES (contact information below) to determine the documents they require - WES will then send your completed evaluation directly to Drexel University).
  3. Do not send transcripts from secondary schools. 
  4. If your school issues only one transcript for life, you may send a notarized photocopy, bearing the seal on each page.

Applicants are responsible for contacting World Education Service, Inc. (WES) for evaluation of transcripts and are responsible for supplying all necessary documentation.

Additional Admissions Requirements - TOEFL

Most programs require a minimum TOEFL score of 79 on the iBT (550 for the paper test). However, some programs require a different minimum score as well as a minimum score on the speaking portion of the TOEFL:

 

School of Nursing

RN-BSN, B.S. in Health Services Administration and Certificate in Medical Billing and Coding applicants: 

  • TOEFL minimum score of 550 AND Test of Spoken English (TSE) score minimum score of 550.

  • TOEFL-iBT minimum combined score of 79, plus speaking section minimum score of 26.
  • International Applicants, as well as Immigrants to the U.S. and U.S. Permanent Residents must also submit evidence of licensure as a Registered Nurse in the United States. (except for the Certificate in Medical Billing and Coding)

MSN, Post-Bachelor's Certificate and Post-Master's Certificate applicants: 

  • TOEFL minimum score of 550 AND Test of Spoken English (TSE) score minimum score of 55.

  •  TOEFL-iBT minimum combined score of 79,  plus speaking section minimum score of 26.

  • International Applicants, as well as Immigrants to the U.S. and U.S. Permanent Residents must also submit evidence of licensure as a Registered Nurse in the United States.

  • Applicant was born on a US military base OR
  • Applicant completed four years of high school AND has a high school degree from the United States, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, or Canada. [If an applicant was educated in Puerto Rico, s/he must provide proof that the high school was an English-speaking school.]

    Original transcripts are required to support the waiver request.
