Preparing professionals to become leaders of Special Education programs in their schools, districts, or intermediate units

The Special Education Leadership program leads to a Supervisor of Special Education certification in PA.  This program is appropriate for individuals who desire to obtain a position in their school, district, or intermediate unit with primary responsibility in supervising special education programs and directing the activities of professional and non-professional employees in special education programs.  It is also for individuals who are already responsible for supervising special education programs but who do not possess the specific content knowledge and skills in special education leadership. 

The graduate Special Education Leadership Certification program is for individuals who already possess a valid PA Instructional I or Instructional II Teaching Certificate and who have a minimum of five years of professional school experience in special education or a related field.  This program is for teachers who want to qualify for the PA state Supervisor of Special Education certificate. If you are out-of-state, you can only apply for PA state certification as a Supervisor of Special Education if you also apply and receive an initial certification in PA.

You can complete the program and not apply for any PA certification. By completing the program you will enhance your content knowledge in the area of special education leadership and earn the graduate credits. Or if your home state has a special education supervisor or administrative certification, you will need to contact her state’s department of education to determine if this program will count in your state.
